A new 2014 study shows that CO2 laser and Radiofrequency combination works even better in removing deep Acne scars:

CO2 laser with radiofrequency offers more effective acne scar treatment

Cameli N. Dermatol Surg. 2014;40(5):553-561.

May 22, 2014

CO2 laser plus radiofrequency was found to be more effective in the treatment of acne scars than traditional CO2 laser alone, according to researchers.

The treatment including radiofrequency also required fewer sessions and resulted in fewer side effects.

Ten patients (7 female, 3 male) with either clinical photoaging symptoms or acne scars were included in the study. Patients’ mean age was 39.2 years.

All patients were treated in a single session using both CO2 laser plus radiofrequency and CO2 laser alone. The investigators took digital photographs, dermatoscopy and in vivo reflective confocal microscopy before and immediately after treatment, and at 1 week and 3 months after treatment.

By 3-month follow-up, clinical improvement was seen in patients with boxcar and rolling acne scars, according to the researchers. In patients treated with CO2 laser plus radiofrequency, 50% categorized their results as excellent, 50% were categorized as good, and none were considered sufficient. In those treated with CO2 laser alone, results were classified as excellent in 30% of cases, good in 40% and sufficient in 30%.

MiXto Fractional CO2 Laser

The future is here with new technology in skin resurfacing with the MiXto SX®. Combining the effectiveness of Carbon Dioxide lasers long known to be the GOLD STANDARD in wrinkle removal with an innovative "quadrant" fractional technology and a more tightly focused beam, the MiXto SX® laser delivers uniform tissue ablation to the dermis causing immediate contraction and tissue tightening. A secondary effect is the production of new collagen over the next 6-12 weeks. This advanced technology delivers powerful results without the harsh side effects and downtime of traditional CO2 resurfacing.

The MiXto® treatment is giving all the benefits of traditional laser resurfacing, without general anesthesia, pain and prolonged downtime.

The benefits to the Patient are:

  • Immediate shrinkage of damaged skin
  • Minimal discomfort with topical anesthetic Minimal downtime (5 -7 days) Softening of fine lines and wrinkles Removal of age and sun spots Treatment of Acne scarring New collagen production for up to one year following treatment.

Technical Information

The MiXto SX® gives Physicians the ability to carefully regulate the depth of penetration and the amount of heat delivered by the beam. The high-speed scanner driven by a patent pending algorithm divides the treatment area into four quadrants or "fractions" and skips the beam from quadrant to quadrant so that each strike is separated by the longest possible interval. The process is repeated until the entire area is treated. Dividing the laser energy this way allows maximum time for thermal cooling of the tissue, less pain for the patient, and faster recovery.

With this "quadrant" fractional technology and a more tightly focused beam, the MiXto SX® laser delivers uniform tissue ablation to the dermis causing immediate contraction and tissue tightening. A secondary effect is the production of new collagen over the next 6-12 weeks, which improves skin elasticity and restores a more youthful appearance.

Who is a Candidate Here is the amazing part. Even patients with a darker skin complexion such as Hispanic, Asian, and light African American skin can be treated with this laser. Its ideal for acne scarring and deep pigmentation unresponsive to topical agents and peels. What are the Risks Just like any other surgery there are some risks involved with the Mixto Micro Fractional Resurfacing. Because only about 20 – 40 percent of the skin is "ablated" the risk of scarring and depigmentation are drastically reduced. Prophylactic antibiotics and anti-viral medication reduce the risk of infection. Allow Dr. A. David Rahimi to go over these with you in a complimentary consultation. How long does the procedure last? After a free 30-minute consultation to determine which procedure will be right for you, the treatment will last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. What other areas besides the face can be treated? The Mixto can be used off the facial skin on the neck, chest, arms and hands to reduce scarring and discolorations secondary to sun or trauma

Who will be performing the procedure? Dr. A. David Rahimi
You get the benefit of laser surgery by an experienced and board certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon.

Cost: The cost ranges from$3000--$5000

Touch up fees ( which if needed are performed 6-12 months later) are $2000

Cooltouch CT3 laser- non ablative acne and acne scarring treatment is $400 per session
